The barium shows a posterior indentation typical of an aberrant artery.

The aortogram in Image 2 shows a left aortic arch with an aberrant right subclavian artery. The shunt (arrowed) had been taken from this vessel to the right pulmonary artery. The fact that the vessel is aberrant was understandably not evident on the echo. The increased flow in it caused the artery to dilate and so produce increasing pressure on the oesophagus.
