This is a dysmorphic ("hypogenetic") right lung, scimitar type, shown by contrast enhanced multislice CT, in a young boy. In Image 1, side A is a frontal volume reconstruction showing the right pulmonary veins forming a vertical common vein passing down to the lower right atrium.
Panel B is a posterior view which shows better a dysmorphic right pulmonary
artery.
Image 2 are axial volume cuts confirming normal drainage of the left pulmonary
veins to the left atrium and the lower panel is at the level of the junction
of the scimitar vein with the right atrium. The heart is well shifted to the
right.
Image 3 is a 3D reconstruction of the airways showing that the right bronchial
system also has disordered anatomy.
This case underlines the widespread anatomical abnormality of this syndrome.
Often the right lung has no fissure, and this case is unusual in that there
are no aortic collaterals to the lung.
